Our goal is not to set an unbreakable record but inspire. We thought that the idea of doing a big year not just for birds, but for all vertebrates, was unique and it really caught our attention as we hadn’t heard of anyone doing this for Ontario. With our studies at Fleming College, we seem to have caught the fish bug and wanted to share some of our appreciation, especially of smaller species that are overlooked. With all of this, it is also worth saying that although we would love to see 400+ species, it is not a competition. The overall goal with this project is to try and get as many people as we can looking at things that might be new to them and trying to spark some new interests in the community.
